Journal Club 2007

This meeting is usually held on the 3rd Thursday of alternate month in University semester time.

Time: 12.30 - 13.45

Venue: CMHSE Meeting Room Ground Floor, Building 15, Monash University, Clayton (unless otherwise specified)

Who can attend: Academic staff of CMHSE host The Journal Club and take it in turns to facilitate sessions. The Journal Club is open to all staff with an interest in developing their knowledge and understanding of research in health professional education. Aims of the Journal Club

The aims of the Journal Club are to:

  • provide staff with the opportunity to reflect on their teaching and learning practices in relation to educational literature
  • share the load of keeping up to date with a range of educational literature
  • discuss, debate and inform strategic direction in key educational issues
  • provide a forum for staff to share their experience and expertise in areas outside their direct sphere of responsibility (e.g. staff with experience in other disciplines or staff undertaking formal study in health professional education)
  • provide a supportive environment for staff to develop skills in presentation and research critique
  • provide an open forum to discuss education within the faculty.

Format

A variety of formats are adopted:

  • Thematic reviews of contemporary subjects / issues
  • Particularly issues identified as having strategic importance within the faculty
  • Timely reviews
  • For general reviews of the contemporary literature in health professional education
  • Methodological reviews
  • To discuss and critique particular methodological issue in health professional education

Although the format is not prescribed, a template is available to help facilitators to structure their session if required and considered helpful.
