About the centre

Mission Statement

The goal of the Centre is to provide excellent and well-informed professional educational expertise to enhance teaching and educational research in the Faculty. In doing so, it will undertake research and development activities that earn it a national and international reputation as a centre of excellence in the field of health professional education.

Aim

To provide leadership in the delivery of quality health professional education in a dynamic, vibrant and research-based academic environment, incorporating a program of multi- and uni-disciplinary educational research that reflects the Faculty’s wish to achieve excellence in both education and research. Initially the Centre will address the current needs of the Faculty, in particular the redevelopment of the medical curriculum. It will also work closely with appropriate health care and other academic disciplines and institutions in the design and conduct of research and evaluation activities, in keeping with the overall research strategy of the Faculty.

The Centre will have a role in: the internationalisation of health care courses; in structuring the resource underpinning for the new curricula, including information technology systems; staff development; educational research training; and in interacting with external and postgraduate institutions at a State, Federal and international level.

It aims to be a top-rated health care educational research and development unit on the international stage, and to provide:

  • sound (best-evidence based) advice and research expertise locally on educational matters
  • a significant consultancy for local and Australian institutions
  • an academic and intellectual ‘home’ for Faculty staff interested in educational research
  • motivated and committed staff who are fun to work with
  • a pleasant and caring working environment
