Bachelor of Arts / Bachelor of Social Work Double DegreeThe Australian Association of Social Workers specifies that 4 years equivalent of University study must be completed to be eligible for membership of the association. Monash University offers the unique opportunity to do this, and in the process to gain two degrees (the BA and the BSW) rather than one. Structure of the courseIn the first year students undertake the usual first year of an arts degree however they must include studies on the study of the individual (e.g. psychology, behavioural studies) and studies of society (e.g. sociology, history). In the second year students do some introductory social work subjects including Social Work in Society, Human Development and Social Policy and Social Justice, and continue with the arts sub majors. In third year the focus is more on social work and includes the social work field placement. Students are however able to complete their arts major in this year. The fourth year is exclusively social work. At the completion of the course students will have undertaken all of the same subjects which have been undertaken by the 2 year accelerated BSW students. This course is available on campus or off-campus by distance education. On campus applicants must also apply through VTAC. More information for domestic applicants.
