Undergraduate FAQ Information
I am a VCE student, what subjects do I need to study?
Students must pass 4 VCE subjects including --
Units 3 & 4 English
Units 1 & 2 Maths (General or Maths Methods)
Should I do a Science subject?
Science based subjects (Biology, Chemistry & Physics) are not pre-requisites for the program. However, students who have (a) at study score of 20 in any two of chemistry, biology, physics, and human development will be deemed to have an ENTER of up to 2.0 percentage points higher or (b) a study score of at least 20 in Units 3 & 4 of mathematics (any) will be deemed to have an ENTER of up to 2.0 percentage points higher.
What was the ENTER score for this year?
The clearly in ENTER for 2000 was 72.10
Do you accept mature age students?
Monash do not have any age restrictions on students entering the program. All students must meet an educational entrance requirement.
Should I sit a STAT test?
No. All students must meet an educational entrance requirement.
Can I study part time?
Yes, the course is offered over three years full time or six years part time.
How many hours is full time/part time?
22 hours full time
11 hours part time
Do you offer evening classes?
No.
Can I study via Distance Education?
No. The Bachelor of Nursing is a practical course that requires students to attend classes on campus, in hospitals and other clinical venues to ensure they have the necessary skills to gain registration with the Nurses Board.
How much will the course cost?
Nursing is a HECS funded course. In 2001 the cost for a full time students will be $3521 plus student fees $320(approx.).
Can I study subjects from faculties other than Nursing?
No. The Bachelor of Nursing is a set program. Students must pass all subjects to gain registration with the Nurses Board of Victoria. Students are given the option in third year to focus on an area of nursing, which is of particular interest to them.
What hospitals are available for clinical placements?
Students attend clinical placements at a wide range of clinical venues throughout Melbourne, Victoria, Australia and overseas. Just some of the venues we use include:
Public Hospitals - The Alfred, The Austin, The Angliss, Bairnsdale Hospital, Box Hill Hospital, Dandenong Hospital, Frankston Hospital, Gippsland Southern Health Service, LaTrobe Regional Hospital, Maroondah Hospital, Mercy for Women, Monash Medical Centre, Royal Childrens Hospital, Royal Melbourne Hospital, Rosebud Hospital and Sandringham & District Memorial Hospital
Private Hospitals — The Avenue, Beleura Private Hospital, Como Private Hospital, Linacre Private Hospital, Freemasons, Peninsula Private Hospital, South Eastern Private Hospital and the Valley Private Hospital
Can I choose which hospitals I undertake my clinical placements?
Students allocate themselves to hospitals of their choice from a wide variety of options. 100% attendance at clinical placements is mandatory.
What opportunities exist for overseas study?
Students can choose to complete either a full semester overseas on student exchange or can undertake a four-week clinical placement at the end of final year. Past students have undertaken this placement in Boston, China, England, Hong Kong, Ireland, and Russia.
Can I work overseas after I have completed my Nursing degree?
Yes. A Monash Nursing degree is recognised all over the world. Many of our students have obtained registration in the England, Ireland, America and Canada.
What are my chances of gaining full-time employment upon completion of the course?
100% of Monash Nursing students have gained employment over recent times.
Can I apply for exemptions/credits for past studies?
Yes, students who have undertaken university programs at another institution may apply for credits from units in the Bachelor of Nursing that are similar to those already completed. Applications for credit must include a unit outline and official transcript of results.
I am a hospital trained SEN/Div 2 Nurse, am I eligible for credits?
Hospital trained Division 2 Nurses do not meet Monash entrance requirements. The school recommends these students undertake two Nursing subjects as full fee paying students to demonstrate their ability to study and gain entry into the program. Open Learning is another option.
In recognition of prior learning, these students may apply for credit for the first semester Nursing subject and a clinical placement in semester 2.
