Bachelor of Nursing (Post-Registration)
The term ‘Post Registration’ as used in the title of this award, is an indicator that students enrolled in this program are already practicing registered nurses and that they are undertaking University studies in the discipline of Nursing following an initial qualification.
The aims and objectives of the degree are to:
- develop nurses who will be able to effectively respond to the challenge of change within the health care delivery system and to innovations in nursing practice;
- encourage the professional development of registered Nurses in order to consolidate their role as clinician, educator, researcher, manager and patient advocate.
It is expected that upon completion of the degree, graduates will be able to:
- build on and extend their existing professional nursing knowledge and expertise;
- positively respond to and recognise the need for innovation within the health care sector;
- promote the quality of nursing care deliver;
- develop competencies in the assessment, analysis, synthesis, interpretation, monitoring and evaluation of nursing care;
- base nursing practice on appropriate nursing research and theory, recognising both legal and ethical parameters;
- utilise creative thinking in the planning and delivery of nursing care;
- participate in teaching-learning and health promotion directed toward the improvement of health care delivery and personal well-being;
- effectively assume an increased management role in the planning and implementation of change in accordance with increased organisational complexity and changing health care needs of clients; and
- accept responsibility and accountability for continued personal and professional development congruent with the changing health care needs of society and the nursing profession.
