Bachelor of Nursing

The Bachelor of Nursing degree, which is offered at the Peninsula and Gippsland campuses of Monash University, reflects the interaction between traditional nursing practices, new technology and caring values. The course provides a comprehensive foundation to clinical practice for the student nurse. The school has partnerships with major health industry providers, in metropolitan and rural Victoria, interstate and overseas. These links enable the lecturers to maintain contemporary practice standards and explore current issues in their teaching activities.

The course aims to develop a graduate nurse who is expected to be committed to the promotion, maintenance and restoration of health and to the prevention of disease. It is anticipated that this first level practitioner will be skilled in the delivery of holistic health care and be able to apply an extensive body of knowledge from the relevant disciplines in a range of practice settings. The student nurse will be trained in problem-solving and clinical reasoning; be competent and safe in the practice of clinical nursing skills and be able to work within legal and ethical standards of practice.

The School of Nursing and Midwifery offers an innovative curriculum that is sensitive to the changing educational needs of nurses, the health care industry and the community. The degree also provides students with the practical working skills, which have resulted in an excellent employment rate for all graduates.
