How do I go about arranging a supervisor for my BMedSc? Students should feel free to approach academic staff who specialise in their proposed research field direct and ask if they would be willing to host them for the year. You will need to ensure the supervisors know what is expected of them throughout the year whilst supervising you for your BMedSc (refer to supervisor guidelines located at: www.med.monash.edu.au/bmedsc/resources/ ).
Will my supervisor receive any funding for hosting me for my BMedSc year? Yes they will. The dollar amount is determined each year by the Faculty and is sent direct to the School your Monash supervisors department is attached to. If you have an external supervisor (non Monash staff member), please note that they are responsible for negotiating the funding split between the Monash and non Monash departments. As such, it is recommended that supervisors contact the Monash department prior to submission of the application form so all are satisfied and in agreement to funding arrangements prior to committing themselves for the year. The external supervisor will need to invoice the Monash Supervisor's department to receive the negotiated funds.
COMMENCING THE YEAR

GENERAL QUESTIONS
When should I apply for Ethics approval? As soon as possible! Please ensure that you apply for ethics approval as soon as you know you have been accepted into the BMedSc course, as traditionally ethics approval can cause delays in the proposed timeframe of your research project.
Who can I contact if I have questions throughout my BMedSc year? Your supervisor is your first point of contact throughout your research year and is there to support you with any questions that you may have about your research and the assessment requirements for the year. Should your supervisor not be able to answer any questions that you may have, please contact the BMedSc e-mail enquiry address: bmedsc@med.monash.edu.au
Please ensure your contact details (home address, phone numbers) are kept current throughout your BMed Sc year. It is Monash policy that all students have a current mailing address registered with the University AT ALL TIMES.
It is an agreement of your enrolment that you check your Monash student e-mail accounts at least twice a week. Failure to read important information sent to your student e-mail address is not sufficient reason to apply for extensions and is not considered an excuse for missing important deadlines.
Police Checks now required annually. Under DHS policy, if clinical placement requirements form part of your course of studies, you are required to have a current police check. This needs to be renewed annually. http://www.med.monash.edu.au/current/police-checks.html
