BCH3990: Research in Action
This unit provides the opportunity for high-achieving students to work with an academic supervisor and complete a short research project in biochemistry and molecular cell biology. Assessment comprises a written literature review and final report, and two oral presentations on the work. Eligibility: Students must have completed all first and second level units in their approved major, and be able to demonstrate that they have an appropriate project and supervisor/s. 12 points of study in the discipline area at 2nd year level and a Distinction average over 24 points at second year level. In exceptional circumstances a student with a 65-69 average over all 2nd year subjects may be accepted. How to apply: Students are strongly encouraged to work in a research area that interests them. The Biochemistry Honours Handbook lists potential supervisors and summarizes research going on in the department. Eligible students should first contact potential supervisor(s) and obtain in-principle agreement that they can be hosted in the laboratory. Student and supervisor should then fill out a BCH3990 application form for approval by the unit convenor. Once approval has been granted enrolment can be completed by submitting a Unit amendment form through the appropriate Faculty Office. Note that enrolments cannot be completed on-line.
