Development of computer-based teaching materials:
Gould, J., Macaulay, J., Maxwell, R., Van Damme, M-P., Livett, B. and Parslow, G. (2001): Nutritional and hormonal aspects of diabetes, Departments of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Monash University and the University of Melbourne which was funded by a Melbourne-Monash Teaching and Learning grant (1999).

Van Damme, M-P., Trembath, M.K. Gould., Gould, J., Aguilar, M., Lawen, A., Macaulay, J., Maxwell, R., Murphy, B. and Preston, B. (1999): Biochemistry – A metabolic challenge, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Monash University.

Development and Introduction of Case studies
Case studies are an excellent tool to enhance the development of students’ skills in problem solving, data and information analysis, critical thinking and information retrieval and allow students to apply their theoretical knowledge to more practical situations. Case studies were developed using a variety of formats to broaden students’ learning experiences and cater to different learning styles.

Evaluation of the introduction of new teaching materials
The introduction of new teaching materials has enabled a decrease in didactic lectures and an increase in more active, student centred, flexible learning. The effect of the introduction of more active learning activities has been evaluated by students, tutors and peers.
