Research Interests

Professor Aguilar has a major research program that includes the role of peptide-membrane interactions in a variety of disease states, b-amino acid-based peptidomimetics and the development of new analytical tools for isolating membrane proteins. Specific project areas include:

1. Regulation of G protein-coupled receptors via specific interactions with the plasma membrane.
2. Mechanism of protein misfolding in Alzheimer's disease.
3. Design of novel ligands for the treatment of cardiovascular disease and HIV.
4. Peptide-based vaccines for the treatment of cancer.
5. Design of novel antimicrobial peptides.
