Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology - Golden Jubilee Postgraduate Research Scholarship

Overview of the award
The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology - Golden Jubilee Postgraduate Research Scholarship celebrates the 50th anniversary of the founding of the department at Monash University's Clayton campus in 1951 and the subsequent achievements of its staff and students.

The Scholarship will be offered annually (commencing 2012) to the Department's top-ranked recipient who has demonstrated outstanding academic merit in the most recent end-of-year Monash University Postgraduate Research Scholarship Round.

Nomination procedure
There is no specific application process for this award. Only applicants for PhD candidature will be eligible. Eligible applicants will be automatically considered.

Benefits
The Scholarship provides a $5000 annual ‘top-up' to the recipient's APA stipend (or equivalent, including NHMRC and Cancer Council Victoria scholarships) and $5000 to be spent during the first three years of the awardee's candidature on travel or research related activities.

Duration
Three (3) years. The duration will be reduced by any periods of prior study undertaken towards the degree (if applicable).

Funding arrangements
The award is fully funded by the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology.

Extension
Awardees are eligible to apply for a maximum extension of up to six (6) months. An extension will normally only be approved where research has been delayed by circumstances beyond the candidate's control and where such delays could not have been reasonably anticipated at the commencement of candidature. The grounds for an extension must be related to study and not of a personal nature.
