Facility Access and Project Planning
- The Facility is accessible to any academic investigators from any institution as well as commercial clients.
- The facility can be accessed by initial contact with either Mrs Shane Reeve or Dr David Steer at shane.reeve@med.monash.edu.au or david.steer@med.monash.edu.au or by phone +613 9902 9321 fax +613 9902 9323.
- Service can cover anything from a simple one-off analysis to an ongoing collaborative project, in which case a meeting will be arranged to discuss the most appropriate way forward.
- Discussion will include:
- The objectives of the study.
- The information already known about the particular protein or protein extract including physical properties such as hydrophobicity, pI or MW.
- The amount of material available for the study.
- The anticipated relative abundance of the particular proteins of interest.
- The extent of available genome and/or protein sequence information of the organism under investigation.
- Any budgetary or time constraints for the project.
- Samples are to be submitted with the service request form.
- We currently offer the following services:
- 1D and 2D gel electrophoresis.
- Sensitive imaging of gels stained with Coomassie, silver stain and DIGE.
- N-terminal sequencing from blots, gel bands and purified samples.
- Analysis by mass spectrometry of peptides/proteins for the determination of protein identification from gel spots and in solution, molecular weight determination and sequencing.
