Project Planning
- The Facility is accessible to any academic investigators from any institution as well as industrial clients.
- The facility can be accessed by initial contact with either Mrs Shane Reeve or Dr David Steer at shane.reeve@med.monash.edu.au or david.steer@med.monash.edu.au or by phone +613 9905 3779 fax +613 9905 3726.
- Service can cover anything from a simple one off analysis to an ongoing collaborative project in which case a meeting will be arranged to discuss the most appropriate way forward.
- Discussion will include:
- The objectives of the study.
- The information already known about the particular protein or protein extract including physical properties such as hydrophobicity, pI or MW.
- The amount of material available for the study.
- The anticipated relative abundance of the particular proteins of interest.
- The extent of available genome and/or protein sequence information of the organism under investigation.
- Any budgetary or time constraints for the project.
- The possibility for the collaborator to be given appropriate access and training to use the lab facilities.
- Samples are to be submitted with the service request form
- Neurosciences related samples should be submitted via the NSV proteomics and genomics platform www.nnf.com.au/genprot or by direct contact with Dr. David Steer
- We currently offer the following services:
- Gel spot/band excision.
- 1D and 2D gel electrophoresis.
- Sensitive imaging of gels stained with Coomassie and silver stains.
- Software to enable 2D gel based expression analysis.
- Enzymatic digests including deglycosylation.
- Protein identification from 2D gel spots and 1D gel bands.
- N-terminal sequencing from blots, gel bands and purified samples.
- Analysis by mass spectrometry of peptides/proteins including molecular weight determination and sequencing.
- Equipment in the lab; Applied Biosystems 4700 MALDI-TOF-TOF including Mascot data base, Agilent 1100 series HPLC, Applied Biosystems Procise protein analyzer, Ettan DALT 12 24cm gel rig, Hoefer mini VE 7cm gel rig, Ettan IPGphor IIb
