NHMRC Overseas Training Fellowship

Julia Archbold

Congratulations are extended to Dr Julia Archbold, who has been awarded a NHMRC Overseas Training Fellowship.

Dr Archbold completed her PhD in structural biology under the supervision of Prof Jamie Rossjohn.  Her past research investigated the interactions between T cell receptors and peptide-MHC molecules.  Dr Archbold now plans to use protein crystallogaphy to study some of the most common and successful human pathogenic bacteria, including Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus pneumoniae and Staphylococcus aureus.  In particular, she will investigate the molecular mechanisms of two types of proteins involved with the pathogenesis of these organisms; the secreted SSL toxins and the cell surface proteins that allow the organism to establish infection by attaching to human cells.

Dr Archbold plans to use the NHMRC Overseas Training Fellowship to perform her research at the University of Auckland under the direction of Prof Ted Baker.
