Bachelor of Emergency Health (Paramedic)

A degree in Emergency Health - Paramedic prepares the graduate for potential employment as an Ambulance Paramedic. The Ambulance Paramedic is an integral part of the patient health care team. The Ambulance Paramedic provides pre-hospital care and treatment for sick and injured people aimed at stabilising and/or improving the patient’s condition in preparation for and during transportation to hospital.

Ambulance Paramedics must be able to think clearly, act quickly, possess a calm manner and have the ability to reassure patients and handle stressful situations. They must be able to accept responsibility, have personal integrity and be able to work with people from many different backgrounds. A paramedic responds to both emergency and non-emergency health care and transport needs. A paramedic is also required to be able to respond to mass casualty incidents in a range of settings within a multidisciplinary emergency health care system.

Career Opportunities

Paramedics are employed by government ambulance services in Australia, private ambulance services, and in industrial, international health, and other community based emergency health settings.
