Timelines and progress
In early 2008, the groups convened at a strategic planning workshop, and identified a common goal for 2015 – to build from existing strengths and ensure that the cluster is recognised as one of the world's leading precincts for regenerative medicine. A working group was formed to progress the initiative and is currently developing a strategic plan for the 2009 – 2015 period. The draft strategic plan for the South East Melbourne Alliance for Regenerative Therapies (SMART) is due to be completed in November 2008, for review by the wider group of stakeholders in December 2008.
In the near term, the working group has initiated a number of activities to enhance collaborative links between the different organisations. For example, a series of multidisciplinary workshops have been held throughout mid 2008, leading to a number of new collaborative research projects to be joint-funded by ARMI, CSIRO, ASCC and Monash University Departments. Additional workshops and regular seminars are planned to identify and support opportunities for further joint projects.
