Dr Jane Black completed her PhD in 1989, cojointly at the Baker Medical Research Institute and the Department of Anatomy, The University of Melbourne. After completing her PhD, Jane worked as a Research Officer at the Baker Institute until 1994 when she was awarded a National Heart Foundation of Australia Post-Doctoral Fellowship, to investigate the effect of ACE inhibitors in the heart, at The University of Melbourne, Department of Medicine at the Austin & Repatriation Medical Centre. Jane joined the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at Monash University as Lecturer in February 1999. Jane's research interests are cardiovascular and kidney cell biology, with emphasis on the causes and consequences of hypertension (high blood pressure). Jane has been the recipient of a number of research project grants from funding bodies such as the National Health & Medical Research Council (NHMRC), The National Heart Foundation and from Servier Laboratories Australia. Since joining the department she has developed a dedicated and enthusiastic research team. Jane is convenor of our Departmental Research in Progress Program which provides an interactive and intellectual research forum in the department.
