Museum

The Department of Anatomy and Developmental Biology houses a museum containing a comprehensive collection of anatomical specimens. These potted specimens are unique and valuable presentations of human anatomy that are used a teaching aids by all students involved in the study of anatomy. The anatomy Museum in many ways is the heart of an anatomy department. The specimens in the Monash museum are readily manipulated for examination, a feature that is being removed from many other museums, as the value of the specimens is consdered more important than easy access by students.

In addition to the pots, wet specimens are available for examination on request. There is a collection of labeled laminated images for the students to use with the specimens. A number of high quality anatomical models complement these specimens.

On the museum computers are a number of programmes developed by Monash for the use of the students. These cover dissections, radiological anatomy and surface anatomy.

Tours of the museum can be arranged by special request and are run by the museum technician. If required, a clinical anatomist will assist in these tours. There will be some cost if a lecture is required.

All Anatomy students are encouraged to use the museum in their studies. The museum is open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
