Major in developmental biology for BSc students and elective units for BBiomedSc students

  • We inspire your journey towards becoming a health professional or biomedical researcher in one of Australia's leading Universities
  • Develop an appreciation of biomedicine and human health by investigting the development of the human body
  • Understand how we develop from just a few cells into complex human beings
  • Learn how errors in development lead to childhood and adult diseases
  • Visit our new CAREERS site for more information

Built upon a foundation of

  • embryology
  • anatomy
  • molecular biology and genetics

modern developmental biology also covers such topics as

  • stem cell science
  • regenerative biology and medicine
  • tissue engineering

  • Department of Anatomy and Developmental Biology

NEW PRIZE FOR THE TOP DEVELOPMENTAL BIOLOGY STUDENT
The David de Kretser Prize for our top developmental biology student has now been established.
This prize of $1000 will be awarded annually to the student who has the highest aggregate mark for units DEV2011, DEV2022, DEV3011 and DEV3022. These units are on offer to our Science and Biomedical Science students in 2nd and 3rd year.
In addition to this monetary award, the David de Kretser prize will be recognised on the student's academic transcript.
David de Kretser was Professor of Anatomy in Monash University's Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences from 1978 to 2005. He is currently the Governor of Victoria, and a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, the Australian Academy of Science and the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering.
