careers

There has been a sharp increase in applications for degrees in science at Monash University. Besides the excellence in learning and teaching offered, this trend reflects the fact that Monash is also a research-intensive university. Thus our graduates benefit from the expertise of world-leading researchers, remain in touch with the latest developments and achieve skills critical to pursuing a career in the biomedical science sphere.

Completion of  DEV-units  through either a science or biomedical science degree, prepares our graduates for a wide range of careers.

Our graduates can apply their knowledge of anatomy and developmental biology directly, such as by choosing a career in the biomedical sphere. Alternatively, graduates can use the general skills and knowledge acquired to pursue careers in other areas.

Just some of the general skills and knowledge acquired through completion of  DEV-units  as well as careers in which our graduates are currently employed, are shown below. Please note: Additional qualifications may be required.

  • Essential analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience in scientific writing
  • Experience in oral communication, interaction with students and academic staff, and answering scientific questions
  • Understanding in how abnormalities in genetic and/or environmental regulation of development can lead to birth defects as well as chronic diseases in adulthood
  • Knowledge of the major body systems: microscopic and macroscopic anatomy, development and function
  • Familiarity with design and analysis of experiments
  • Hands-on expertise in modern developmental biology techniques
