Dynamed Database

DynaMed is a clinical reference database designed as a 'point-of-care' tool. Staff of Alfred Health and affiliated research institutes now have access to DynaMed via the Clinicians Health Channel. Topic summaries now cover more than 3,000 subjects. DynaMed is updated using some 500 medical journals and systematic evidence review databases. Each publication is reviewed, and articles are evaluated for clinical relevance and scientific validity. Dynamed can be used via onsite computers, remotely via Athens, and downloaded for use on PDAs and smart phones.

Best Practice Database

Best Practice complements DynaMed as a point-of-care resource, using a new approach to presenting vital information. Data is presented in a step-by-step approach, covering prevention, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis. The searcher drills down into the database according to what information is needed. Best Practice is produced by BMJ Publishing and builds on a similar resource called Clinical Evidence, which has now been combined into Best Practice.

Disaster Preparation ... after the storm

Melbourne experienced two big storms in February and March this year. On both occasions areas of the Ian Potter Library were flooded, and parts of the ceiling were damaged. Consequent repairs were made to the ceiling, lighting fixtures; and sections of carpet and wooden flooring needed to be replaced. Fortunately no books or journals were affected. In preparation for any future events, the Ian Potter Library has purchased two "Disaster Response Bins". These bins contain equipment and materials which could be used by Library staff or other helpers - in rapid response - to protect any part of the Library's collections threatened by water damage.
