CGMC Health Sciences Library

The CGMC Health Sciences Library is quickly getting used to its new home on the ground floor of the Fethers block. The Library is now close by a number of research units, and not far away from Nursing Education. Veronica Delafosse, Senior Librarian at the CGMC Library, reports that the library's facilities have improved much over the last few months. Veronica has worked hard to improve the physical environment of both the library and adjacent corridor and office areas. Staff are welcome to come and inspect the new facilities.

The Library is keen to sign up staff on its integrated computer system "Spydus". This system allows library users the ability to renewal loans, make reservations, and request inter-campus loans via the Bayside Health Intranet. Staff should bring their ID badges to the Library when registering.

Cochrane Library
Regular users of the online EBM database the Cochrane Library (www.thecochranelibrary.com) will have noticed that the website has a new look following the release of Issue 2 for 2006. The recommended starting point is to use the Advanced Search option, which allows users to search multiple concepts and combine searches using the Search History option. Results from the Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects are now listed under the label "Other Reviews", and results from the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials are now listed under "Clinical Trials". Hands-on instruction in using the Cochrane Library and other health databases is provided as part of the Library's regular training sessions.
Electronic books

As medical knowledge expands, so does the size and weight of medical reference books with each new edition. If you find the thought of lugging around these massive tomes daunting, you might be interested in investigating the Library's range of e-books.
