UpToDate comes to Sandringham

The Library was pleased this month to switch on site-wide online access to the popular UpToDate Clinical Information database for staff at SDMH. The value of UpToDate has been recognised by clinical staff at both Alfred and CGMC campuses, and medical staff have been asking about UpToDate availability for SDMH staff as well.

> > Access to UpToDate is provided via a specific portal, which can be found either via the Bayside Health Intranet "For Clinicians" section, or via the Library's website.

EndNote 10
The Library has loaded the EndNote 10 software onto computers both at the Ian Potter Library (Alfred) and the Health Sciences Library (CGMC). EndNote is an advanced program for organising references retrieved from searching databases such as Medline, EMBASE, PsycInfo, and CINAHL. EndNote 10 also has the capability to create links between references and downloaded PDF files.

> > EndNote training courses will be offered to staff and students at both campuses in the near future - stay tuned.
Ask at the Library desk to find out which computers now have EndNote.

Scientific Search Engine : Scirus
Do you use Google to search for scientific information? Then you might be interested in checking out the Scirus website which is a science-specific search engine. There is an advanced search option, and searches can be limited to either traditional journal information, or web resources or both.

>> Learn more about specialised Internet search engines such as Scirus, and other useful websites at the Library's Internet & Health hands-on training sessions.

Allan R. Cohen and David L. Bradford.
2nd ed.
Hoboken, N.J. : Wiley, c2005.

Alfred Library shelf no. : 658.409 C678I 2005

It is possible to have enough influence to make things happen - and this book will tell you how. Leadership gurus Allan Cohen and David Bradford explain how to coax cooperation from the people who control the resources, information, or support you need to succeed. You'll learn how to get past your restrictive assumptions, figure out the interests and needs of potential partners, and negotiate mutually beneficial exchanges that help you both achieve your goals. It's a powerful and proven way to cut through interpersonal and interdepartmental barriers to turn co-workers and competitors into allies.
