Monash alumnus named Australian of the Year
Professor Mick Dodson AM (BJuris 1974, LLB 1978) is the 2009 Australian of the Year. We also celebrate the Monash community members who received Australia Day Honours.

     
 

New insight into how bees see
New Monash research, using honeybees, could lead to improved artificial intelligence systems and computer programs for facial recognition.

     
 

Monash pilots new alumni mentoring program
The University is seeking enthusiastic alumni to mentor students of Environmental Science, Fine and Applied Arts, and Information Technology. This is part of a new mentoring program being piloted this year.

Event in China: Beijing Alumni Dinner 2009
Coinciding with Monash University's inaugural Beijing graduation ceremony, alumni are invited to a dinner at the Grand Hyatt Hotel on Saturday 21 February.

     
 

Meeting: volunteering with Monash South Africa
Alumni interested in joining Monash University's new South Africa Alumni Volunteer Committee are invited to a meeting at Sandton Convention Centre, Johannesburg, on Saturday 14 February.

Conference discount: Evolution - the Experience
Held at the Melbourne Convention Centre (8-13 February), this event will explore the ongoing impact of naturalist Charles Darwin. Monash alumni are offered discount registration.

     
 

Public lecture: international criminal justice
Justice Richard Goldstone, Holding Redlich Distinguished Visiting Fellow, will speak at the Monash University Law Chambers, Melbourne, on Tuesday 3 March.

     
 

Short courses: glass art
This month, Monash will host a range of glass courses at the Caulfield campus. Subjects include 'open mould and lost wax casting', 'fusing and slumping' and 'beginners glass blowing'.
